We began our trek in the dark this morning, preparing ourselves for a long days walk into Arrowtown. There was some brief clearing while we were up on the top of Roses saddle and we snuck a few lovely views of the Motatapu valley. It seemed the clouds were chasing us off the mountains so we quickly descended, eager to avoid a rain storm.
We decided to walk for three hours down the river instead of taking the dry footed flood route, mainly so we didn't have to climb more than necessary. While the river was the flatter option it took quite a long time and resulted in seriously cold feet; however, the different terrain was a welcomed change.
Arrival in this area makes it seem just like the beginning of the end. Queenstown always had a final feel to it in our planning and now it has arrived a tinge of sadness is in our camp. Sadness but also excitement. What new adventures are in store for us upon our completion of Te Araroa? We wait with expectation.
