So we counted our days and kilometers until the end...here is what we discovered:
About 18 days to go; Arrowtown, Queenstown, Riverton, and Invercargill are the towns we have left; two more real showers left before the end (a shower every nine days isn't so bad); 450 ish kilometers left; approximately 30 more dehydrated meals; 15 sleeps until Hannah's dad and sister come and join us for the end; maybe 10 more huts to stay in; and 8 more times sleeping in our trusty tent.
Unbelievable that this is all coming to an end. The hike we have dreamed of and planned for the past three years is so near to completion. It is bittersweet, but we will savour every moment that we have left.

Not a lot happened today, we hiked from 10.30-1.30, up a few hills, down a few valleys and eventually arrived at the hut. The trail was excellent, clearly defined and well trodden which makes for easy walking. While it was through tussock and involved lots of sidling around hills (neither of which are our favourite past times), the good track made for a very enjoyable day. We spent the next five fours watching out the windows hoping other Te Araroa's would join us. Two arrived much later in the evening but sleep was on the agenda so we didn't have heaps of time for talking. Selwyn managed to nearly complete a puzzle but will have to leave the final pleasure to someone else. We had so much fun entertaining ourselves with a game of charades this afternoon. Funniest moment was when Selwyn was acting out one of the fellow hikers names (surname Snell) and attempted to move around the room like a snail...hilarious.
We had fun stringing easter eggs to the ceiling for our American friends a few days behind us. It's nice to bring some easter joy to the hiking community.
