After a day off yesterday we were up ready to go first thing this morning. We often feel bad in huts when we wake others with our early rising, but this morning a hunter was up and gone before dawn so we were no longer the bad guys.
We had a big day planned, skipping three huts and making it to Carey's hut...rumour had it that there was hot water. Turns out it was a dirty rumour, there wasn't any water at all, let alone hot water. The walk was a goodie, well apart from us walking separately for an hour after having a wee tiff. Sometimes an hour of walking alone helps, besides, we both talk way too much to walk alone, so before long we had reunited and all was well in the camp.

The beauty of walking the trail in the autumn is that it's hunting season (and that the weather is amazing with blue sky and snow, and the changing leaves...autumn is just generally beautiful). We listened to stags roaring during the walk and met up with a friendly hunter walking out with his kill.
Arriving at Carey's hut, a spot in what felt like the middle of nowhere, we met a number of other people camping out for the night. We pitched the tent since the hut was full and in hindsight we had the best deal...we could hear the others chasing mice during the night. Nice to be enclosed in the safety of the tent. What a wonderful spot at the head of the Mavora Lakes. We have a spectacular country, both the scenery and the people.
